We outsource all our hosting, and encourage our clients to do the same. There are a slew of solid reasons why you should keep your development and your hosting contractors separate, but for the sake of expediency, we offer two:

IT COSTS LESS TO HOST ELSEWHERE

Unlike website design and development, hosting is a 24-hour-a-day job. Hosting servers are manned every minute of every day, taking preventative measures and reacting quickly to situations so that your website is safe, secure, and live. Because hosting companies specialize in hosting, they can have world-class technicians monitoring your hosting server at little cost, being able to spread the hosting costs over a number of clients. Very few development firms (including us) would be able to offer such outstanding services at such low prices.

YOUR WEBSITE IS IN YOUR CONTROL

We have dealt firsthand with a number of clients who had worked with previous agencies who both designed and hosted their website. After going their separate ways, these all-in-one agencies would make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the client to gain access to the website independently, thanks to increasingly hostile representatives and the fine-print on their contracts. We are not at all saying that this is indicative of all such companies, but we've had more than a handful of clients approach us needing to start over entirely, new URL and all, because they were locked out of their own website!

Your website is yours, period. You should have the information you need to access all the content, applications, and databases on your site at your whim. By hosting your website separately from using a design firm, you will be able to always have one hand directly on the development process, always in control.
